RIP; George Best

I'm not enough of a football (you know, soccer) fan to truly appreciate what George Best meant to the game, but I can appreciate a man who summarized his life by saying: "I spent all my money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."

Oh, and not to pass judgment, and knowing full well I'll probably be needing a liver transplant before it's all said and done, but I think it's outrageous that they gave this guy another liver.

Anyone for a debate on this? How about Mickey Mantle's liver transplant? Was that an outrage? Or not?

Actually, I have to disagree here. Who are we to pass judgement on other people's value to society? People who nearly drink themselves to death have a disease - alcoholism. You think we should not lend a helping hand and give them a second chance on life? That is one of the more cold-hearted things I've ever heard.

I encourage you to visit the alcoholics ward at a hospital someday. These are real people fighting a real problem and in need of real help. Society, including healthcare providers already discriminate against them enough because they sometimes feel like "hey... you did it to yourself." That's not right.

Should we just let HIV/AIDS patients suffer without compassion because "they did it to themselves, too?" (That is, unless it was transmitted at birth). Of course not.
