House GOP: We're not above the law, we just rewrite it after we break it....

The GOP is continuing its wacky efforts to restore honor and dignity to DC.

The important thing to remember is that if you can't meet a high standard of ethical conduct, you should lower your standard. They don't teach that in civics class....

HOUSE DEMOCRATS CAPITULATE TO REPUBLICANS; CHANGE PARTY RULES TO PREVENT INDICTED MEMBERS FROM SERVING AS PARTY LEADERS.

That's right - the Democrats recently changed their own internal House rules to make it clear that their own party leaders cannot serve as leaders if they are indicted. Of course, the Republicans have lived by this higher standard for years. And, while some may have wanted to change it just in case Tom DeLay gets indicted, the reality is that the majority of the Republican caucus did not want to change it. So, the party didn't change it contrary to the assertions by this blog.

I'm glad that the Democrats finally changed their rules to make it clear that elected leaders in their party can't be both leaders and indicted. They have followed the Republicans and taken a stand for ethics, rather than just acted as hypocrits and complained. Now, both parties can agree that elected leaders shouldn't serve in that capacity in the House if indicted.
