Another Illini reunion

Yesterday afternoon, Illinois celebrated the beginning of its second hundred years of men's collegiate basket ball by beating Minnesota into the ground. An especially poignant aspect of the celebration was the reunion of dozens of former Illinois players and former coaches. This was highlighted by the naming of a street in Champaign for Lou Henson, the coach most responsible for reestablishing Illinois as a dominant national power.

It turns out that there is an Illini reunion of a different sort taking place. Longtime readers of this blog will remember how the blog has chronicled the travels of NFL journeyman QB and former Illinois star, Kurt Kittner. I am pleased to announce that Kurt has now been signed by his his sixth team in less than a year. Is it a coincidence that recently fired Illinois head football coach Ron Turner was just hired as the Bears' offensive coordinator? (Incidentally, that was the job Turner left years ago to become the head coach of the Fighting Illini.)

Here's to hoping that, together, Kittner and Turner enjoy the same degree of success in the NFL that they achieved down in Urbana-Champaign only three years ago.
