Just wondering
What are the thoughts on the current middle east situation? I was laying in bed, not able to sleep, and was could see how if Syria enters the fight and we move to defend Israel it would be very easy for Iran to move into Iraq and link up with the Shittes in an attempt to create a greater Persia and push us out. Maybe this was just 3:00 am rambling but it made sense. Thoughts?

I think Canon is basically right. Syria will only fight this battle through their proxies. The last thing the Syrian regime wants is for Israel to decimate their army--something that the IDF is well prepared to do. Optimistically, this thing may wind down in the next couple of weeks to a simmer. Pessimistically, Israel may undertake another long term occupation of southern Lebanon.
I don't think you have to worry about 'greater Persia' just yet. My guess is that Iran will also choose to carry on the fighting through proxies. Until they develop a nuclear capability, they will not want to fight directly with Israel.
