Headline: Kittner not counting on job security

Really? You mean after being on nearly a quarter of the rosters in the NFL over the last couple years he's not house shopping? In any event, congrats to Kurt for remaining on the roster and best wishes that he stays there for the season. Who knows? With a little luck, maybe he'll get another chance to demonstrate that he's developed as a QB and he will stick around the league for a while longer.

Blech!

More savagery

Disgusting.

In the time to come, some community activist type figure near here will heap scorn upon the groceries and gas stations and banks etc. that refuse to build in their neighborhood. Scenes such as these will not be acknowledged...

F-ing Bastards

Nothing but a bunch of savages in this town

From NOLA.com

LootingNew Orleans, 2:15 p.m.Returning from a fact-finding expedition from the newspaper's Howard Avenue headquarters, a group of reporters and photographers stumbled on a parade of looters streaming from Coleman's Retail Store, located at 4001 Earhart Blvd., about two blocks away from The Times-Picayune offices. The looters, who were men and women who appeared to be in their early teens to mid-40s, braved a steady rain and infrequent tropical storm wind gusts to tote boxes of clothing and shoes from the store. Some had garbage bags stuffed with goods. Others lugged wardrobe-sized boxes or carried them on their heads. The line going to and from the store along Earhart Boulevard numbered into the dozens and appeared to be growing. Some looters were seen smiling and greeting each other with pleasantries as they passed. Another group was seen riding in the back of a pickup truck, honking the horn and cheering. The scene also attracted a handful of curious bystanders, who left the safety of their homes to watch the heist. No police were present in the area, which is flooded heavily with standing water two to four feet deep on all sides of Earhart Blvd.

Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans.

Here's hoping (at the last minute and after having to avoid the city in anticipation of the tumult), that New Orleans and its citizens do OK... NOLA.com: Hurricane Center

The Bush Administration finally gets serious about energy consumption

Woops, no it didn't... It's sad to see that idiots in charge have decided to retain fuel effieciency standard for 'light trucks' that actuall encourage vehicles to be bigger and less fuel efficient. Sad, but not the least bit surprising...

As TNR points out the Democratic Party needs to beat the drums on the Abramoff scandals. A failure to do would indicate that the leadership of the party, Colin's favorite Dr. Dean included, still has no idea how to retake Washington...

Bush Embraces Scandal Ridden Chicago Mayor Richard Daley; Can't Pronounce IL Gov's Name

Was anyone surprised by this? It's no wonder Bush likes Daley... they're both sons of bitches.... Woops, I meant they're both sons of powerful politicians and both of them are down in the polls because their mendacity is being exposed...

More BP plant explosions

News stories like this and the fact that my family lives under the shadows of various refineries and chemical plants makes me shudder. Although there has been no indication of terrorist involvement yet, these things occur much too frequently. Given the quantity of potentially deadly chemicals that are amassed at these sites, is it so unreasonable to expect that the federal government take steps to increase the security and safety of these plants? I don't believe that government imposed regulation is usually the best solution. However, there is ample evidence that waiting for the private sector to voluntarily undertake the steps necessary to protect our communities has not been effective. The decision makers at the companies that own these sites apparently don't know or refuse to acknowledge that it is in everybody's interest to increase the safety and security of these massive refineries. Consequently, the government ought to act in the public interest and, working with these companies, impose stringent security measures to protect our country from the obvious threat posed by the potentially devastating effects of an attack or an accident made all too likely as a result of the lax safety and security that is currently in place.

Update: BP will be shutting down the plant in question 'indefinitely.'

New Denials in the Plame Case

ROVE does not exist. Not only did he not leak the name but he does not exist at all.

What will the Illini do?

Maybe they are starting to catch on

Approval of Bush's handling of Iraq, which had been hovering in the low- to mid-40s most of the year, dipped to 38 percent. Midwesterners and young women and men with a high school education or less were most likely to disapprove of Bush on his handling of Iraq in the past six months

New Food Website

Back when Colin was talking to me (I think he's still upset about what I said about his former dog, Sherman) and he invited me to ost on his blog, one of the first changes I made was to introduce different food sites to the blog. Given the political bent of the blog, this has been a relatively neglected aspect of our blog. However, in an effort to post slightly more than one post a day in Colin's absence, I would recommend the following site to all 1.2 of our daily readers:

Cooking For Engineers

Now, I'm not an engineer, but I do have a good deal of scientific training and spend a lot of time cooking and reading about cooking. Having said that, I can recommend this site for its analytic approach, even if I don't endorse all of its methods and conclusions.

We all know how TV dinners were invented right?

Or do we?

Just goes to show you that the mass media is often like any other mass produced product. Shoddy quality is perpetuated; has been, is now, and will be...

The main difference is the degree of damage caused by the propogation of misinformation resulting from unprofessional reporting.
